Cleaning the tiles and grout in the bathroom is one of the hardest manual cleaning chores that a person has to do. There are a lot of sources of grime in the bathroom that can make the tiles and grout dirty – soap scum, mould and mildew, limestone and others. But cleaning these kinds of grime is never easy and would require strong cleaning products and elbow grease.
Of course, there are variety of cleaning products available on the market that are design just to remove different sorts of grime from tiles and grout, but cleaner Chelsea claims that there is no need of purchasing such products and instead creating one yourself. For ceramic tiles cleaning solution mix the following ingredients 1/2 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/4 cup washing soda mixed together with a litre of water. This general solution would clean almost any kind of grime off the ceramic tiles and grout.
But this solution won't do you any good against the mould and mildew growth. Not that it won't clean it, but it won't eliminate the spores of the mould which means that the mould and mildew will start growing up against after few days. Create mould and mildew cleaning solution by mixing 1 part bleach and 1 part water. Cleaner Chelsea would like to warn you not to mix bleach and ammonia, because they create deadly combination. After you applied the solution on the mould and mildew growth, wait for it to take effect for 30 minutes or so, before scrubbing the surface. After the mould and mildew rinse the surface with clean water.
Although you've cleaned the mould and mildew growth from the tiles and grout in the bathroom, and used a solution that will eliminate the mould spores, that doesn't mean that you've get rid of the mould and mildew for good. The bathroom is a room with high humidity, moist surfaces and lack of proper air circulation, which are the ideal conditions in which mould and mildew can appear and thrive. So if you want to prevent mould from ever appearing again on the bathroom tiles and grout you should take some precautionary measures. Apply silicone waterproofing, especially on the grout, so that the water doesn't stay on the surface and runs down the drain.
